FOOD: FEEL GOOD FOOD @ GIRAFFE

The giraffe concept is simple. It’s about freshly cooked global food in a feel-good venue.

The menu is inspired by the best flavours from around the world – including must-have brunches, stacked high burgers, fresh salads, steak and grills together with hand roasted coffee, healthy smoothies and a selection of cocktails, beers and global wines.

We visited on a mid-week evening and dined from the main menu. For starters, we opted for the corn on the cob – served with fresh red chilli butter & grated Italian style cheese; and edamame beans – soy bean pods wok fried in soy, chilli and mirin. Delicious and nutritionally balanced. There was also the tempting choice of firecracker chicken tenders, garlic focaccia chips, olives or a mini mezze. Prices from £2.95-£5.35.

For main course, choose between burgers and sandwiches, grills, pastas, salads and sides. I ordered the chicken, spiced king prawn and mango salad – a deep bowl of grilled spiced prawns and chicken breast, mixed leaves, cucumber, radish, green onion, avocado, mango and chopped Brazil nuts with tequila-lime dressing. One of the best salad choices I’ve seen on a menu in a long time. My dining partner ordered the “Kiev” Chicken Schnitzel – buttermilk and tarragon marinated breast, garlic herb butter, mash, roasted lemon and green salad. A favourite on the menu. Prices from £8.95-£15.95.

If you’ve room for dessert choose from a tempting cheesecake, sundae, waffle dish, tart, moose or pudding. I opted for the apple and passion fruit crumble served with vanilla ice cream while my partner tucked in to the chocolate brownie served with very vanilla ice cream and chocolate sundae.

Good music plays out while you’re dining and the staff give the venue a chilled vibe whilst remaining professional and efficient.

Giraffe also offers a ‘Feel Good Dinner Menu’ – a starter and main for £10.95 available every day from 5pm; Lunch For Less menu for early diners – any dish is £6.95 available noon to 5pm Monday to Fridays; a Good Morning Brekkie menu – a breakfast and hot drink for £5 available weekdays til noon; plus a children’s menu available all day, every day and 20% off for students after 5pm daily (excluding Saturdays).
