FOOD: From breakfast to bedtime at Bill’s

From breakfast ‘til bedtime…

Bills has landed in Sheffield!

I’d spotted the sign going up at St Paul’s Place a few months back and having dined at their central London venue previously, I had high expectations for the latest northern addition to their restaurant portfolio.

Bill’s is a unique café-bistro and produce store created by a team of people who are passionate about food. Step inside the doors and you’ll find fruit and exotic vegetables stacked up alongside an array of alluringly colourful homemade cakes, pizzas, quiches, pies and sandwiches. There is a wide choice of ever changing desserts and salads as well as made-to-order juices, smoothies, milkshakes, coffees and teas that are all available to eat in or take away.

We were seated in the more formal restaurant area and the venue was almost full – an impressive start given Bills only opened its doors early summer.

The restaurant is impressive – exposed Industrial lighting and metal furnishings contrast with chic chandeliers and retro armchairs. The venue is full of colour and charm.

The menu matches the décor too – fun yet sophisticated dishes served from breakfast ‘til bedtime. The lunch and dinner menu consists of an array of appetisers including potato and rosemary bread, crispy crumbles halloumi and Bill’s giant green gordal olives (from £2.75 to £4.50); or go straight in for a starter with chicken in a jar and warm roast red onion and gruyere tart (from £4.95-£5.95). If there’s a group of you dining together though, we recommend you opt for a mezze board (£14.95) and try out a selection of Bill’s appetisers and starters together.

For main course, choose from burgers, fish, salads, pies, sandwiches and grills (£9.50-£18.50) but be sure to leave room for dessert as these stole the show on our visit. We recommend the lemon meringue pie cheesecake in a glass (£4.25-£6.95). It’s heavenly. There’s also a wide choice of beers, wines, an after dinner heritage port or teas and coffees.

The founder of Bills set out to create something amazing, “with great food, a real buzz, and plenty to look at – a place for everyone”. We think he’s done just that.
