The Treat Kitchen: Sweet Shop Heroes, Radioactive Sours and Chocolate Delights

Sweet tooth? Prepare to tempt your tastebuds with more than 300 varieties of sweets, chocolates, handmade cream and butter fudges at The Treat Kitchen.

Diddy pear drops, radioactive sours and coconut mushrooms.

Originally founded in Nottingham, the confectionary retailer is opening a new store at Meadowhall Shopping Centre.

The Sheffield branch will add to the family-run brand’s existing portfolio of stores in Leicester Highcross and Intu Derby.

Ahead of the new store launch, I’ve been posted some samples to try. Here’s a sneak peek:

Traditional boiled sweets are a British favourite.

Choose from rhubarb and custards, kola cubes, rosy apples or diddy pear drops – all made in big copper boiling pans.

From fizzy bubblegum bottles to aniseed torpedoes, gob stoppers and coconut mushrooms – The Treat Kitchen has no shortage of sweet shop heroes.

Some of the range – including gummy sweets and fizzy cola bottles – are suitable for vegetarians too!

Feeling brave? Not for the faint hearted, radioactive sours are covered in a tongue tantalising layer of malic acid (the same acid you find in cooking apples). Prepare to squirm for 30-40 seconds until the sour taste turns sweet.

For a more indulgent treat, tuck in to chocolate delights hand crafted by Belgian chocolatiers; including boozy truffles – whisky or strawberry and champagne.

The grand opening of The Treat Kitchen, Sheffield, will take place on Saturday 3rd September 2016.

Between 9am and 8pm, The Treat Kitchen will be giving away 75,000 sweets!

The Mayor of Sheffield will be cutting the ribbon at 11am.
