Aptly named, Ed’s Easy Diner is a relaxed, retro classic American Diner.
Ok, so you may be situated in Sheffield’s busiest shopping centre but when you hit play on your personal juke box, you step back in time to the 1950s.
We slide in to a retro red leather booth and select some Elvis Presley classics while we browse the menu. Choose from more than ten varieties of hamburger, fried chicken, hotdogs, salads and diner favourites including a pulled pork sub plate, the full Ed’s breakfast or heart-warming beef chilli.
If you want to indulge, you’re in for a treat. Dishes are sold ‘solo’ – on their own – or as an ‘Ed’s Plate’ – with fries, onion, rings and coleslaw.
The chefs are certainly not shy with their portions. Our order of the Ed’s Plate Big Bubba bacon ‘n’ cheese is more than enough for a small elephant. The burger is made from fully traceable Farm Assured beef and grilled to perfection in Ed’s famous toasted sesame seed bun they’ve been serving since 1987.
But if you’re not happy about using your entire daily calorie allowance in one meal, then you’ll be happy to hear there are some female-friendly, calorie-conscious choices on there too. Choose from Skinny Ed’s – any of the hamburgers served with salad, vinaigrette and no bun; veggie burgers; grilled chicken and salads.
We opt for the chicken Dijon salad – a deep bowl of chicken breast goujons and bacon bits on a bed of romaine lettuce with a honey and mustard dressing.
We like that you can peek through the open kitchen and watch the chef’s freshly preparing your meal. It’s clear to see the customer favourites – the team are inundated with orders of bulging beef burgers and towering tumblers of milkshakes.
If you’ve room for dessert then check out the diner’s dessert and milkshake menu. There’s a Kit-Kat choco-lat sundae’, brownies and pancakes Oreo, Peanut Butter and Nutella shake flavours.
If it’s not too busy when you visit, be sure to grab a booth rather than a table to get the full Ed’s Easy Diner experience. Only the booths come equipped with the Dime Selector Juke Box where you pay 20p to hear your favourite hit. Go indulge in burgers and beats for yourself.
